How do I find out if my birthing hospital has private postpartum rooms?
Search your hospital above. For the 23 hospitals we have reviewed, we show what the hospital's official website says. For the rest, ask Labor & Delivery directly: "Are all postpartum rooms private, and can my partner stay overnight?" Some busy city hospitals still use shared postpartum rooms unless you pay for a private one.
Does a birth doula count as one of my visitors in Labor & Delivery?
It depends on the hospital. Some let a doula come in addition to your visitors; others count the doula toward the limit. Ask Labor & Delivery before your due date, and check our hospital pages for the ones we have reviewed.
What is the difference between a labor tub and a water birth?
Many hospitals have tubs you can labor in for pain relief, but ask you to get out of the water to deliver. Fewer allow water birth, where the baby is born in the tub. Ask your hospital which one they offer.
Can I bring a private cord blood banking kit to the hospital?
Usually yes, but hospitals do not supply private kits. Order one from a cord blood bank weeks before your due date, bring it in your hospital bag, and tell the nurse when you check in. Confirm the process with your hospital and provider.
