Want to learn how to synchronized swim? Have you always been interested in taking up Pilates or Nia or laughter yoga but haven’t had the time or motivation? Interested in getting tips on how to run properly from a female Olympian? If you happen to live in Western Canada and you love all things health-, fitness-, and sports-related, check out the upcoming every WOMAN Day of Activity in Vancouver on October 3.
Founded by Kerri Carlson and Lynn Kanuka—sisters to each other, moms, and elite athletes both—every WOMAN aims to inspire women of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and abilities through physical activity. I’m a firm believer in the benefits of fitness, not just on the body but also, and even more so, on the brain. As a mom, exercise can be a life-saver; it helps reduce stress and clears the mind on those chaotic days.
I met the energetic, organized, inspirational Carlson while covering last year’s every WOMAN conference up in Whistler—a three-day, annual event that also includes workshops on everything from drumming to nutrition to finances.
Carlson explains that both the weekend and the day-long gatherings have something for everyone: it’s a great way to bond with your own mom or daughter or to have some time away from the kids; either way, you’ll learn and laugh. And ideally you’ll leave with a newfound physical outlet, an activity you love and want to pursue.
She’s especially excited about the performance by Romina Arena at the wrap-up dinner at the Pacific Palisades hotel. Arena is an opera singer from Italy who had her throat slit by a rival when she was 15. She spent months in a coma and has made an incredible comeback, personally and professionally.
Registration deadline is coming up fast: September 27. More details are at www.everywomanintheworld.com. It really is for every woman.
