This morning we were up and at 'em early, as usual, and yet I was still in my pajamas at 11 am. Between cleaning up smoothie that spilled all over the floor and nursing a bonk to the head, not to mention all the usual feeding and cleaning (for the kids too), who has time to get dressed? Just another day in the trenches. And we were still late for the preschool party at 12:30.

I felt so emotional at the gathering. My oldest is already done his first year! We’ll never forget his two teachers, possibly the sweetest and most patient women on the planet, definitely cut out for their jobs. We are so thankful that they were the ones to introduce us to the whole new world of school.

A toast, then, to all the caring, attentive teachers out there! Have a great summer.

Their first teachers

You know, I was feeling that same grateful, wondrous way about my child's childcare provider the other day. Well, I guess everyday. I had test driven 2 other day cares and 4 days before my new job started I found R ( I don't know if I can say her name). This September will be our first anniversary with her and I plan to celebrate with the same joy as the other important unions in my life. After all, she is with my daughter all day- for five days a week. The only thing that has eased my separation anxiety is the patience, respect and sincere love that I know my daughter receives from R. EVery morning when we come in there is some exciting activity already set up and ready to go. If my daughter has refused breakfast at our house R will make her eggs or pancakes. R goes outside rain or shine. R is endlessly positive. R makes lunches that are more fabulous than most of my dinners and then gives us some to take home. Oh I could go on and on and on. She is truly a hero to me, a part of our extended family.

and while I am gushing. I have to give a shout out to the community centres who focus on kids. I live in the West End and the one near our house is amazing amazing amazing. The child time is run by this awe-inspiring woman- a power house of caring. Community is still alive and well. Thank goodness.

On page 48 of our Fall issue of blush, the toy kitchen set featured was incorrectly labeled the Discover Sounds Kitchen by Little Tikes. The kitchen set shown was actually the Super Chef Kitchen by Little Tikes.

The Super Chef Kitchen is a compact modern kitchen featuring a cabinet, microwave, oven, and refrigerator, all with doors that open. The stovetop burner makes electronic cooking sounds, and the set comes with coffee pot, place settings, and cutlery for little ones to play with.  The Super Chef Kitchen retails at $79.99

The Discover Sounds Kitchen by Little Tikes that we described on page 48 retails for $29.99
