Last week was seriously stressful. (See the blog entry below for details.) And when the going gets tough, the sorta-tough get going to the spa, provided there’s child care and a credit card and the possibility of a guilt-free hour or two on hand. I highly recommend it. My wish for all of you is a gift certificate for a massage for Mother’s Day.
I think the body takes a while to catch up to emotional stress: once you’ve made it through a crisis, the body tends to crash a few days later. There’s no science behind this; it’s just my theory.
After all the worry and tears with my dad in hospital last week, I felt like every single muscle in my body was stuck in fierce contraction even after learning that the outcome of his unexpected surgery was good.
He’s still recovering, as is, I believe, every member of our immediate family. So when I decided to haul my exhausted butt in today for a sports massage, little did I know that I’d soon be feeling the release of tension from areas where I didn’t know it was even possible to harbour stress.
We moms often don’t take the time out to treat ourselves, and for good reason. Life’s just too busy, and I mean busy in a good way. But we ought to do it more often, and not just when the going gets tough.
