So I’m not one of those moms who never let their kids watch any TV. They don’t watch a lot, but I have to admit there are those times when we all need a little downtime and a visit to Treehouse allows me to have that. But I’m stumped by so many kids’ show mysteries. For instance, what kind of animal is Arthur anyway? And about Mama Yama on Kids’ CBC: what is it? A shrimp? A kind of parasaurolophus (so says my three-year-old)? What?

Every now and then, a story comes along that’s so powerful, sobering, and heart-breaking it stops you in your tracks. “A Mother's Final Look at Life” is one of them. From the Washington Post, this article looks at childbirth in impoverished Sierra Leone, where one in eight women die in labour. It’s a must-read.

Happiness in the House of Horrors

There is no "woe is me" with little ones. Over the last couple of days I’ve been amazed watching my two little guys, both of whom have had it comin’ out both ends as if their bodies were bottomless pits of bile and other grossness. At the time, of course, they’re not exactly laughing. But in between? It’s time to have fun, dammit!
